Base Periods (Standard & Alternate)
Updated: Sep 27
This is a fact sheet provided by EDD with in depth explanation
How can I find my base period?
You can continue reading below or get access to the Tools & Calculators here
What is my base period?
Most likely you were awarded your UI benefit due to your standard base period. If you were sent a form asking for your wages, they most likely were trying to look at your alternate base period. See more info below.
Standard Base Period
Why is this important?
This is how they calculate how much you should be awarded for your benefit amount.
You also need to know which base period they used to see if you are eligible for FED-ED
Alternate Base Period
Will EDD automatically change your standard base period to the alternate?
Facebook thread here
EDD will look at the Alternate Base Period if you do not qualify for UI based on the Standard Base Period. Additional EDD fact sheet on base periods here.
How do I ask for it to be recalculated to the alternate base period?
It isn't a guarantee that you will receive that since the verbiage suggests that they will only look at the alternate if you don't have enough to qualify via standard base period, but any requests to change your claim directly you must contact EDD. Tips on calling here.
