10/29 EDD News Release

Updated: Oct 31

PUA changes, ID Verification, Frozen Debit Cards, & Fraud Updates

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) Changes

  • Those who had claims beginning February 2 will begin to reach the end of their 39 weeks of PUA.

  • Starting October 31, PUA claimants will be eligible for an additional 7 weeks (totaling the available weeks for PUA to 46)

  • The process to re-compute PUA claims is expected to take two weeks

I am coming to the end of my 39 weeks of PUA. What happens next?

  • You will receive a notification through your UI Online account. Please let your funds run out before expecting a notification (for regular UI claimants, this is how it works when their benefits exhausts).

  • Notice will let you know seven weeks have been added to their claim and to certify as usual

I am on PUA. I was originally on a regular UI claim which exhausted and became eligible for PUA since I could not qualify for a regular UI claim, why do I have less than 39 or 46 weeks?

  • Federal CARES Act limits on PUA benefits are being implemented, which require any weeks of benefits collected on regular UI claim or FED-ED claim to be deducted from a PUA claim.

  • You will get a notification by mail in regards to this.

Identity Verification, Frozen Debit Cards, & Fraud

My funds have been reduced or deducted from my EDD Debit card, what do I do?

  • EDD has no direct access to debit funds on any accounts. If you are not sure about the activity on your card, call Bank of America at 1-866-692-9374 to resolve.

My EDD Debit Card is frozen and I have not gotten any messages from EDD, what do I do?

  • It's likely Bank of America froze the card due to suspicious activity. EDD will only contact you if they need you to verify your identity. If they have not, then call Bank of America 1-866-692-9374

My EDD Debit Card is frozen and I DID get a notice from EDD to provide identity documentation, is this right? What are my next steps?

  • It's likely you are amongst the many who had filed at a single address or is impacted by other potential fraud indicators. EDD needs to find the rightful owner of the information to verify the identity of the claimant before issuing any more payments

  • Follow the instructions in the message, login through your online portal, and upload the needed documents through the Document Upload feature. This is available on mobile devices as well

I need help with this whole identity documents, where do I go?

Go to AskEDD and fill out the following:
