UPDATE 7/14/20 - calling before 8:00am is not always necessary, I've tried a few times starting at 8:00am and have gotten through. If you do not get through by 8:30am, just accept it as it as and try again the next day. Don't exhaust yourself!!!!
PHONE TIP #1 TO GET A CLAIM SPECIALIST
Tip #1: Dial phone sequence 15110 - it's faster than tip #2, though both work
For calling before 8:00am, dial 1 3 (repeat 8)
When it's 8:00am, hit 9 and then 5 1 1 0

Expanded explanation in detail of phone sequence tip #1:
Calling before 8:00am - the lines will say that it's closed
You need to hear "thank you" and an option for language so you are in the correct queue (if you do not hear an option for a language, hang up and try again)
Hit 1 for English
(Listen to long message) Hit 3 for "to file or reopen an unemployment insurance claim"
"Why wait" ... at end of message it will ask you to hit 8 to repeat or 9 for the main menu. Hit 8 to repeat - continue doing this until it's past 8:00am
When it's past 8:00am, instead of repeating, hit 9
This will repeat the menu, go ahead and hit 5 - you don't have to listen to the entire thing
If you are in, it'll give you a wait time - if not it will tell you there are too many callers.
PLUG IN YOUR PHONE
Summary: 1 3 (repeat menu with hitting 8) 9 5 1 1 0
Note: it IS POSSIBLE that it will hang up after you've sat repeating the menu for 30 minutes or what not. Try again if you want, but if you don't get through, try again another day. After this point it's almost impossible to get in.
Tip #2: Dial phone sequence 132527. Don't enter social. Youtube video for this tip here.
Tip #3: (UPDATE 5/19/20 from a member) there’s no more “welcome” that you will hear, it is either a deeper sounding voice saying “thank you” or higher sound “thank you.” People need to hang up on higher sound thank you, if you hear deeper, you’re in. Press 5-1-0
Tip #4: Press 1 for English, wait to hear small announcement. Press 3, listen to all the prompts available. Press 2, press 3, press 7. Do NOT enter social. (Sequence 1, 3, 2, 3, 7) Thank you for calling unemployment - hang up and redial. Thank you for calling California - you're in!
Tip #5: Sequence 1, 6, 7, 3 - entering social doesn't matter
